The general overview

Yes, I realize this is the third post today.  What can I say, I'm trying to catch up.  And because of that, I'm going to continue this post in a bullet fashion as well as chronological starting with the oldest update.  Hopefully this will keep me from rambling.

1.  Sofia had her 2 month check up on Thursday July 29.  She did awesome.  She's in the 75% in height, weight, and head circumference.  She was 23.50 inches tall, weighed 11 pounds 13.5 ounces, and had a head circumference of 40.2 centimeters.  I was a little worried to hear that she went from the 19% in most categories to the 75% in all, but the pedi said that he wasn't worried at all.  He stated that since she grew in all the categories, not just one, that she was progressing as he would expect.  Apparently the largest jump is usually from the first to the second appointment.  She also got her first round of immunizations and she did FABULOUS!  Didn't even cry :)  We decided to do the Dr Sears (also Dr Bob) schedule.  You can find it here if you're interested.  I decided a few weeks before her appointment that I wanted to do the alternate schedule.  It was what I felt was right for our family.  If you want to know more you can ask, but otherwise it would take up a whole post.  Here's a picture of her after her appointment, drool and all.

2.  My 27th birthday was Monday.  No big deal.  So I turned a year older?  Eh.  My husband was out of town and it was my first day back at work.  There was definitely nothing special about it.  In fact it was, sadly, just like any other day.

3.  We bought a new car.  The hubs' car broke down back in February.  We went about a month as a one car family... that was interesting.  Then we borrowed my grandmothers old buick- sans A/C- since she can no longer drive.  He used that car until he left for tour.  I had been working non stop since last week to find him a car since he's coming home on the 16th and will need a car with a working A/C asap.  We got re-approved for a loan and the hunt began.  By the way, that is suppose to say RE-approved.  We got our first loan back in February, but ultimately decided to wait to buy and since the offer was only good for 90 days I had to re-apply for a loan.
I don't want to go into everything, but I found car #1, researched it, had the letter of intent sent over from my bank, and went in to test drive.  They tried to take advantage I left without a car.  Found car #2, everything checked out except it didn't have ABS, ugh.  Found car #3, awesome car (had ABS!) and great deal.  We are now the proud new owners of a 2009 Toyota Corolla.  This is more car than I ever hoped to get on our minuscule budget.  But it's awesome, it reminds me of my first car (RIP 1999 Corolla, I loved that car!).  I'm driving it until he comes home... you know... just to make sure it works ok.  ;)  It also doesn't hurt to save the miles on my car.  Here are some pictures.
I feel SO good about this car.  Safe for my husband and my baby.  And will last forever.  Finally this weight has been lifted from my shoulders.  I also spent WAY too much money at Target (where else?) getting the car outfitted with all the little things.  I got him a sun shade, car mats ('cause it didn't come with any, boo), an iPod AUX jack, and a sticky pad that holds your iPod on your dash.  I love buying things for the hubs!  :)  I can't wait until he gets home and is able to enjoy it!!

Contemplating

I've been wondering a lot lately about Sofia. What is she going to look like? What kind of personality is she going to have? What are her hobbies and interests going to be? I guess I'm getting a little more anxious to meet her. Albeit still really nervous and definitely not ready.

I guess I'm most worried about the immediate future. Is she going to be an "easy" baby or a "sensitive" one. The hubs and I are both fairly laid back and I feel like I've been pretty stress-free this pregnancy. I wonder a lot if the mother's attitude toward the pregnancy and her stress level during it has anything to do with the baby's temperament. What I mean is, if the mother is pretty laid, back doesn't worry about too many things and generally just goes with the flow, does that make for an easier baby? I hope so, because I really feel like I've taken everything in stride.

I've heard of women calling their OB/GYN's every week because something "just wasn't right" and constantly worrying about every little twinge or pain. Don't get me wrong, I think it's important to be aware of your body's signs. But I wonder if that, then, makes for a more sensitive baby? I'm sure there are exceptions to my rule, but I'm just hoping that my laid back ideas towards this pregnancy (and the pending labor) will lend us an easy-going baby Sofia. I'm definitely not holding my breath on that one though. :)

Looking forward to seeing my bestie in 7 days and my first shower in 8!

Our Adventure: Round Rock Express Game

We went to a Round Rock Express game for the first time a few weeks ago. I'm just now getting around to posting a few pictures. I didn't get to take too many pictures, because, well, there just wasn't a whole lot to take pictures of. But... here are a few from that evening.

TEXAS STATE!!!

Our snacks...

And us at the game, of course. :)

Made my day!

So, I'm at the tanning salon. Yes, I know, I know. It's bad for me. BUT I like to be tan and I don't have a swimming pool, therefore I have no option.

ANYWAY... I'm at the tanning salon slathering on this amazing smelly tanning stuff that I bought for an obscene amount of money. I look over and realize there is a full length mirror on the back of the door. I think "Ugh, I loathe full length mirrors when I'm (less than) half naked." But as any girl would, I stare and criticize every piece of my body, and wish I were 20 pounds thinner... maybe someday. I go on about my tanning session, leave, and head over the Starbuck's next door for my favorite, Iced Chai Latte, yum! I get my drink and as I'm leaving said Starbucks an older woman is looking at me and says something. I didn't understand her so I asked her what she said, thinking she had a question. I mean, I was in the Starbuck's close to the school I teach at. She could have been one my students grandparents or something. But, alas, she wasn't. You know what she said? She said, "You have very pretty legs!" Literally, MADE. MY. DAY!

We are definitely too hard on ourselves sometimes. :D

Gatti's Jingle Contest

If you haven't already heard from me. My husband has entered a jingle into the Gatti's contest for a chance to win $10,000. If you have a little spare time, please go vote for his jingle.

To vote, you must create a login (using an email, I haven't received any spam thus far), then head over to the songs. Find "Gatti Goes Latin" and click on the 5th star. It's important that you click the 5th one, because if you click any other it will give that rating. For example, if you click on the 3rd star it will give a rating of 3. And of course, we're going for the highest rating! Also, leave a comment if you'd like. If you have even more spare time, go and rate the other jingles with a low rating :) It's dirty, buuuut we want that 10K :D

Thanks!

So I was randomly going back to older posts and taking another look through my comments. I just wanted to say, I'm sorry! There were a bunch of comments that I didn't even notice! A tag from Jennifer, some wedding site that found my blog, and various other comments that I completely missed. Is there a way to look at ALL your comments at once and not have to go to each individual post? I just figure that people won't comment on old posts... guess I was wrong. Anywho, I'm really sorry if you asked me a question, tagged me, or the like and I never responded... I probably never saw it!!

Homebody no more!

So I've decided that after the wedding, Kino and I are going to start doing more things together. I know this sounds silly, but with our completely different schedules this can be very complicated. His off time in my on and vis versa. So I've come up with a game plan. We each make a list of things we would like to do with each other. Every weekend (or any weekday) that it is feasible we do one thing off of the lists. Each time we have to alternate so that no one feels left out. Also, there is no complaining and you must do whatever that person wants, even if it is something you aren't interested in.

So, here's my list so far... anyone have any suggestions?
  1. Putt Putt Golf
  2. Arts & Crafts show
  3. Coffee House
  4. Try a new beer- Flying Saucer
  5. Happy Hour
  6. Go to the park with the dog
  7. Walk downtown Round Rock
  8. Walk downtown Pflugerville
  9. Eat at a new restaurant

Random update

Not much going on here. I'm just trying to finish up a few wedding things... invitations, gifts, decorations, etc. My invitations should be heading out tomorrow (with any luck). I can't wait to start getting the RSVP's back, I think that will really help to make it seem "real". Also, I have my first shower next weekend, I'm looking forward to it, but I have a feeling it is going to be a bit stressful since it is at my house.

My next big project is to find the 6-8 vases I still need for our centerpieces. And of course there are a bunch of small things that still attention, but those will come with time. I did do a little decoration shopping yesterday and I bought some curtains (for the look below-it's gonna be AWESOME!), self-lighting red paper laterns to hang in the trees, and some sparkle-y jewel thingies that I will probably string on ribbon and hang some where where they will catch a lot of light.

Other news: Kino is in Iraq with Grupo Fantasma and should be home on Wednesday, thank goodness!! I have only gotten a chance to talk to him 2 times since he left on Labor day. I have gotten a few emails, but it's nice to get to talk to him too., even though I'm just glad I know he's OK. He said that it's actually pretty neat over there, the food is great, and they actually have huge plasma TVs and playstation 3's to keep them busy.

I'm bad, I know

So... I haven't really kept up with the blog a whole lot. And... I didn't finish my list by Feb 1, but I'm getting really close. I only need about 8 more. (They're actually really hard to come up with) My problem is that I don't want to put down something that I really don't think I'll do, because I want to finish them all. But then I don't want to put down stuff that I KNOW I'll do for sure, cause that's too easy. Either way, I have completed a few of them while in the process of trying to finish the list. So even though I didn't finish my list, I started working on finishing the goals. The list just might have to be a work in progress. I'll think of some while I'm driving home or something, and by the time I get around to opening the file, I've forgotten. O'well, such is life.

I'll make another post about the things I've completed later today. In the mean time, I've got lots of laundry to do.

Dear belly

why must you be so flabby? I will be running 3 times a week starting on Monday and I would greatly appreciate if you would react to my actions in trying to slim you down. I know that you might enjoy looking like a muffin, but I prefer you to be flat. Thank you for your consideration in the matter.

Starting new

Well, I'm not much of a blogger, just because I don't think that I write very well. But I think that I will give this a chance.

I've started a 101 in 1001. I guess it's the popular thing to do, but I've never really made a goal list before. I think it will be a good thing for me. A new me for a new year! Hopefully I will be able to stick to the majority of my goals. I'm trying to keep it within reasonable reach for myself. I do have almost 3 years to complete it. I'm also going to attempt to write and/or post pictures about each goal that is achieved.
