On the road to solids

We've been bad.  The hubs and I have kind of put off starting Sofia on solid foods.  We tried rice cereal a while ago, but just never kept up with it.  Since I'm home for two weeks I decided that now would be a great time to get into the habit of at least *trying* to get her to eat something.  Also, I was wanting to make my own baby food rather than buy the cans.  Therefore, I needed a little time to figure all that out without the stress of work.

Three nights ago I made her sweet potatoes.  SUCCESS!  The first solid food that she really seemed to enjoy (other than rice cereal).  We had tried banana, no go.  Then avocado, that was OK, but not her favorite.  After that applesauce.  She hated that, she would gag and then spit it out.  I baked up some sweet potato pureed it and she went to town...

Last night I made up some pears and butternut squash.   I'm interested to see if she'll eat the pears.  She might just not like fruit.  Which would be sad for me (because I love fruit and don't really like veggies) but good for her.

I'm so glad that I chose to make our own food.  It's so much cheaper and REALLY easy.  Especially at this stage when you're not really suppose to add too many, if any, spices.  It's just a matter of cooking and then pureeing the foods you want to feed her.  And if it's something like avocado, you don't even have to cook it.  If you're interested in making your own, I used this website.  It's very helpful, informative, and has easy recipes.
